Trench Dig to Close Section of South Central Street

Posted: 09/02/2015
Construction Project Please note: The new stormwater pipe installation has been rescheduled to next week, therefore, Central Street WILL BE OPEN Sept 3. A new release with updated information will be issued once a new date for the trench dig has been finalized.

From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 3, South Central Street will be closed between Summit Hill Drive and Union Avenue.

Crews will be digging an 18-foot-deep trench for a new stormwater pipe as part of the construction of the Marble Alley apartment complex and City Streetscape improvements that will follow. The new pipe will improve the stormwater drainage of several downtown blocks.

Two public downtown garages with entrances on Central Street will remain easily accessible. Southbound motorists on Central wishing to access the State Street Garage should detour left onto Summit Hill Drive, right onto Hall of Fame Drive, right onto Church Avenue and right onto State Street. Motorists wishing to access the Dwight Kessel Garage should detour left onto Summit Hill, right onto Hall of Fame and right onto Hill Avenue.
