Wide Variety of Saturday Events Downtown Prompts Temporary Street Closures

Posted: 06/17/2015
Four events - a 1,000-foot padded vinyl slip-and-slide, a beer brewing festival, a gay pride parade and a weekly farmers’ market - will bring a range of fun events to downtown on Saturday, June 20, along with a few street closures.

Below are event details and road closure information:

Event information: Noon to 5 p.m. near the Civic Coliseum, 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave. This water-slide event aims to cool down summer’s sizzle, as well as offer music, dancing, food, drinks and swag that attendees can purchase. The event partners with East Tennessee Children’s Hospital.

Visit www.slidethecity.com/events/knoxville for more details.

Road closures: Howard Baker Jr. Avenue between Hall of Fame and Hill avenues will be closed 3 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday.

Event information: 4-8 p.m. on Depot Avenue and the Gay Street Viaduct, overlooking the Southern Railway Station and the Old City. Sample fresh beers of all colors, styles and flavors. All net proceeds benefit Cure Duchenne.

Road closures: Gay Street between Jackson and Magnolia avenues is closed 7 a.m. to midnight Saturday; Depot Avenue between Williams and Conrad streets also is closed 7 a.m. to midnight Saturday. A temporary no-parking zone on the Gay Street Viaduct begins at 5 a.m. Saturday.
