Cleanup to Close Waste Facility

Posted: 03/29/2017

The City’s Solid Waste Management Facility, 1033 Elm St., will be closed on Thursday and Friday, March 30-31, as crews assess and remediate a hazardous material that was brought there today.

A City Public Service Department crew picked up and delivered a pile of debris that was then determined to have been contaminated with a hazardous waste.

An environmental engineering contractor will be recommending a cleanup plan, and City officials are investigating the source of the hazardous waste.

Commercial customers can go to Chestnut Ridge Landfill (this location does not accept cash) located at 140 Fleenor Mill Rd, Heiskell TN 37754, or the Poplar View C&D Landfill at 7826 Rutledge Pike, Knoxville, TN 37924.

City and County residential users can use the landfills or the Knox County Convenience Centers. Knox County Solid Waste can be reached at 865-215-5865 for more information.

The Household Hazardous Waste Facility will also be closed.
