Posted: 05/04/2008
Mayor Haslam and City employess partnered with Habitat for Humanity to build a three-bedroom home in the Lonsdale Community from Saturday, March 29 thru Saturday, April 5, on Divide Street.

The house that the City worked on will be the future home of Nikki and William Faulkner and their two daughters.

This build was part of an effort by Knoxville Habitat for Humanity and 13 covenant partners to build seven homes in seven days in Lonsdale as part of a "Seven Day Blitz."

The last multiple house blitz completed by KHFH was in April 2007 when seven houses were built in one week in the KHFH subdivision October Woods located in Northeast Knox County.

The seven house blitz build is be the first multiple house blitz in the city of Knoxville by KHFH.  The Thirteen Covenant Partners are: Wal-Mart, Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Lawler-Wood, Pilot Corporation, UT chapter Phi Sigma Kappa, City of Knoxville, Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church, UT Interfraternity Council, UT Panhellenic Council, Cokesbury United Methodist Church, Tennessee Housing Development Agency, The Sunrise Foundation, and Gerdau Ameristeel are funding the houses and hundreds of volunteers will provide the labor.

At the end of the week on Saturday, the seven families will receive a key to a home they can call their own.
