Two special happenings on Saturday, July 30 – a downtown farmers’ market and the return of a 1,000-foot-long water slide – will mean the closure of a handful of streets.
Market Square Farmers’ Market
The 13th season of the downtown farmers’ market offers locally grown produce, meat, eggs and plants, as well as locally-made artisan foods and crafts. The Market Square Farmers’ Market connects local growers and buyers from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Market Square and along Union Avenue and Market Street. The following streets will be closed:
• Market Street, between Clinch and Union avenues – closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday;
• Union Avenue, between Walnut and Gay streets – closed from 6:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday;
• Temporary no-parking zones on Market Street and Union Avenue will be in effect starting at 5 a.m. Saturday.
Slide the City
A 1,000-foot-long slip-and-slide, with music and food, will be set up by a private vendor near the Knoxville Civic Auditorium and Coliseum all day Saturday. • Howard Baker Jr. Avenue, between Hall of Fame Drive and East Hill Avenue – both eastbound lanes will be closed, from 3 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday; one westbound lane between Hall of Fame and Hill will be closed, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.;
• Honor Our Troops Drive, between Historic Preservation Drive and Howard Baker Avenue – closed to through traffic, 3 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Saturday.
