Look for expansion of the State Street Garage to take off, starting next month, when the Public Building Authority will select a construction manager to coordinate the building of two or possibly 2½ decks.
The Request for Proposals was issued Dec. 3, and submissions are due at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018.
A pre-proposal meeting, where PBA officials can discuss the project with interested firms and answer questions, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, in Room 549 of the City County Building. Attendance is highly encouraged but not mandatory.
A construction manager is expected to be hired by late January 2018.

Next spring, construction will begin on expanding the State Street Garage by between 480 and 560 parking spaces. The $9 million garage expansion will add full fifth and sixth floors and possibly a partial seventh floor. The two new full decks will each accommodate 240 to 250 parking spaces, and the new partial deck will have about 60 spaces. The added half deck will be designed for a possible future build-out and sale of air rights; it will be compatible for either additional parking spaces or private-sector construction of up to four floors of office/condominium space.
The new parking decks are expected to be in place and open to the public by the end of 2019.
