Downtown Parking Tip Sheet: Sept. 21
Here's the latest on events and parking downtown this weekend, Sept. 21 - 22. Expansion of State Street Garage – the addition of two decks and 570 new parking spaces – will mean the accompanying temporary loss of half the garage parking spaces during construction, starting in about a month. If State Street Garage is your go-to garage when visiting downtown, this is a good time start considering some
other options
.
This weekend:
Friday
: “
Pandemonium Reigns
” is not the theme of parking downtown tonight due to some
high-profile visitors
. It is, however, the name of the event at which the 1998 Tennessee Vols vs. Florida Gators game will be screened at World’s Fair Park Festival Lawn. The event is a fundraiser for KARM, 5-10 p.m. and
the ticket site
includes admission and parking information.
Mountainfilm on Tour presents the best short films screened at the annual Mountainfilm festival held in Telluride.
The films
are about outdoor adventure, environmental activism and what it means to be a human on Earth. Tickets are $12, plus applicable fees, and available at the door. Bijou Theatre, 7:30 p.m. Free parking is available at the
Dwight Kessel garage
located just down the hill, on the corner of E. Hill and State Street.
And at the Tennessee Theatre, the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra’s Moxley-Carmichael Masterworks series kicks off with Brahms & Rachmaninoff at 7:30 p.m.
Movies on Market Square
continues with a screening of
Clueless
(1995, PG-13) beginning at 8 p.m. (Wall Avenue will be closed from 8-10 p.m. so as not to cast shadows on the screen, so plan accordingly). Free parking is available when entering after 6 p.m. at City-owned garages as well as the Langley Garage (407 Walnut St), which is a great go-to for after-hours parking, especially once construction begins at State Street Garage.
Saturday
: Game time for the University of Tennessee vs. the Florida Gators at Neyland Stadium is 7 p.m.
Knoxville Area Transit’s Passenger Playbook
s are guides to using KAT's fixed routes to reach Cumberland Avenue, just two blocks from Neyland Stadium. If you live near one of the city's main thoroughfares (like Kingston Pike, Broadway, Magnolia Avenue, Clinton Highway or Chapman Highway), there's a Passenger Playbook showing step-by-step processes for hopping on a KAT bus and riding to and from the game. Passes are only $4. Check out the
available shuttles
, $10-$20 round trip.
Also on Saturday (and Saturdays through November 17):
Market Square Farmers’ Market
, 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Market Square.
