Downtown Parking Tip Sheet: Sept. 28
The City’s communication team is posting weekly blogs to help keep you apprised of events and parking situations downtown. The forthcoming
State Street Garage construction project
that will add two new decks and 570 more parking spaces will effect some parking availability, and we want you to be armed and ready with the best information.
Construction begins in October, so now is a good time to consider the many parking alternatives when planning your downtown sojourns.
This weekend:
Friday:
In the downtown-adjacent
Central Filling Station
food park, Knoxville-based band Black Lillies release their latest CD with a live performance. Due to the concert, Bearden Place between Stewart and Irwin will be closed from 5:30 - 10:30 p.m. Parking tips from CFS: “Street parking is your best bet. There are street parking spaces along Bearden, Irwin, Bernard, and Hazel streets. Please do not park in any of our neighbors' designated parking spaces. If you choose to park in another business' lot after hours, you do so at your own risk!”
Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget is at the
Knoxville Civic Auditorium
at 8 p.m. Ample event parking is available in the garages across from the venue.
Movies on Market Square
continues with a screening of
Monsters, Inc.
(2001, G) beginning at 8 p.m. (Remember: Wall Avenue is closed between Gay and Walnut from 8-10 p.m. so as not to cast shadows on the screen.) Free parking is available when entering after 6 p.m. at City-owned garages as well as the
Langley Garage
, which is a great spot for after-hours parking, especially once construction begins at State Street Garage.
Saturday:
Market Square Farmers’ Market
is 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Market Square. It’s decorative gourd season!
The HoLa Festival
takes over Market Square from 7-10 p.m. with food and retail vendors and live music and dancing).
The UT Vols play Georgia in Georgia at 3:30 p.m.
The
Historic Tennessee Theatre
celebrates its 90th anniversary with a 1920s-inspired gala on Saturday at 8 p.m.
Sunday
: HoLa Festival continues on Market Square, 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Parking is free in City-owned garages and for most metered spaces on the street.
The Tennessee Theatre’s 90-Year Gala with Alison Krauss and Union Station is 6:30 p.m. It’s sold out, so that means approximately 700 vehicles parking downtown for the show (and maybe dinner beforehand). If State Street garage is your usual go-to, this night might be the perfect time to check out an alternative garage, like
Dwight Kessel
or Langley.
Upcoming in the week:
Wednesday
, Oct. 3: John Prine, 7 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre is a sold-out show.
