KFD Memorial: Remembering and Honoring
At the Knoxville Fire Department's annual memorial service, Mayor Indya Kincannon, firefighters and their families, and City employees from other departments gathered on Oct. 15 at Mary Costa Plaza.
The group remembered and honored the memories of nine former firefighters who have passed away since KFD's last gathering.
The names of these nine firefighters were called as a memorial bell was rung:
• Grover "Cecil" Arp
• William "Roy" Bentley
• Arlie "Bruce" Cureton
• Jimmy "Scully" Day
• Bobby G. Evans
• David M. Hammond
• Albert "A.K." Lawson
• Hugh "Eddie" Stuart
• Kenneth L. Wilburn
The service also honored the 24 City firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty, dating back to 1875.
"The men we are honoring today spent their careers providing calm during chaos, running toward flames when others fled," Mayor Kincannon said. "They always exhibited selflessness and bravery."

Thank you to our KFD professionals who serve us 24/7/365 with bravery and devotion.
