Maker Profile: John Phillips...
Maker Profile: John Phillips, Phillips Forged
John Phillips is the owner of
Phillips Forged
and received national recognition this summer as the winner of a challenge on a Forged by Fire (Season 6, Episode 20) on the History Channel.
Phillips is modest about his success, but with increased attention and increased demand for his knives from chefs all over the world, he has had to recently hit the pause button on taking new custom orders.
As his business grows, Phillips turns to the Maker community for guidance. The Maker community “has always been an incredible wealth of friendship and resources,” said Phillips recently.
Mayor Madeline Rogero introduced Phillips at the 2019 Maker Summit, noting that Phillips is one of several makers receiving national attention and putting Knoxville on the map as a
Maker City
.
By being involved with the maker community, Phillips has “found both moral support from other artists, as well as sage advice from experienced mentors who have helped m throughout building my business. To me the Maker City Summit has been a key element for both learning more about how to build my business but also strengthening my connection to the community.”
