PUBLIC AWARENESS MESSAGE FOR MOTORISTS IN TENNESSEE
A public awareness message for motorists in Tennessee: State, county and local law enforcement officers will not pull you over for the sole purpose of determining if you have legal reason to be out of your residence, are employed by an essential business or engaged in essential activity.

KPD officers have not been directed or authorized to stop vehicles to ask for documentation to be out in public. If a KPD officer does so, call the non-emergency line at 865-215-4010 and ask to speak to an on-duty supervisor or call the Crime Hotline at 865-215-7212. If you are stopped by an officer for anything other than a violation of the law or reasonable suspicion of criminal activity, you should ask for the officer’s name and badge number and notify a supervisor from the agency.

Again, there is not a curfew in place in Knoxville and you are not required to have official documentation to be out in public. The Safer at Home Order urges residents to stay at home as much as possible and to practice social distancing by staying at least six feet away from others. Be smart and be responsible for yourself, your family and your community. Stay home as much as possible. Assume others are infectious, even if they aren’t exhibiting symptoms or sick. And wash your hands.
