Fatal Shooting at 603 Longview Road
Update on Longview Road Shooting (June 24, 2021, 12 p.m.)
The victim from the fatal Longview Road shooting has been identified as 24-year-old Carlos Sweeney of Knoxville, Tennessee.
At this stage of the investigation, which is being led by the KPD Violent Crimes Unit, the incident is not believed to be random in nature.
Investigators also believe that the suspects fled the area of the shooting in a vehicle and are asking anyone with video capturing Sutherland Avenue, Forest Park Boulevard, Forest Hills Boulevard or Longview Road between 4:20 and 4:50 a.m. on the morning of Wednesday, June 23 to share that video to assist their investigative efforts. On Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at around 4:30 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Longview Road to conduct an investigation after receiving a 9-1-1 call that had been disconnected. While en route to the area, a second call was received regarding a gunshot victim at 603 Longview. Once on scene, officers located an open apartment door. An adult male was found inside of the apartment suffering from at least one gunshot wound and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the preliminary stages. There are no suspects in custody at this time and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
