Shooting in 2700 Block of E. Fifth Avenue
Victim from Shooting in 2700 Block of E. Fifth Avenue Identified (July 17, 2021, 6:30 p.m.)
The victim from the fatal shooting in the 2700 block of E. Fifth Avenue has been identified as Chaka Sligh, 36 of Knoxville, Tennessee. No suspects have been arrested or charged at this time, and the investigation is continuing.

Shooting in 2700 Block of E. Fifth Avenue
At around 3:10 a.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021, a Knoxville Police Department officer was flagged down by a vehicle on Central Street near Jackson Avenue in the Old City. An occupant of the vehicle was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim, an adult female, was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased shortly after her arrival. It was reported to officers that the shooting occurred in the 2700 block of E. Fifth Avenue, where a crime scene was located.
Major Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the early stages. Anyone with information relevant to the investigation is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477, online at
