Ambassador Judith Varnai Shorer, Consul General of Israel to the Southeast, and members of her staff came by the Mayor's Office today to meet with Mayor Madeline Rogero.
Ambassador Varnai Shorer, appointed to the Atlanta post two years ago, is strengthening Israel’s relationships with state and city officials and business leaders throughout Tennessee. She is a 40-year veteran of the Israeli diplomatic corps, having served as a former ambassador to both Hungary and Bosnia-Herzegovina as well as a former minister of congressional affairs at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C. Her most recent post was desk director at the Center for Policy Research.
Mayor Rogero in September traveled to Israel as part of a U.S. mayoral delegation sponsored by the American Jewish Committee (AJC) Project Interchange. The week-long educational seminar was designed to further enhance U.S.-Israel relations at the municipal level. Mayor Rogero and the delegation met with senior Israeli, Palestinian and Israeli Arab leaders, and other influential leaders across the political and social spectrum.
