Waste Connections to Collect Early on Tuesday as City Preps for Snow

The snow predicted for Tuesday, January 16, has City crews and Waste Connections making adjustments in attempts to stay ahead of the weather.

Residents will need to put garbage and recycling out tonight as Waste Connections will be collecting garbage and recyclables on its Tuesday routes beginning at 6 a.m. There is a chance that weather could prevent collection for all residences on Tuesday routes. In the event that any houses are missed on Tuesday or Wednesday routes, containers should be left out until the garbage can be collected.

"In other words, if your trash is collected on a Tuesday route, please go ahead and put your trash out tonight," said Chad Weth, Director of Public Service. "If your trash is not collected by Tuesday or Wednesday, please continue to leave it out as they could be a day behind."

Today, City Public Service crews have been pre-treating Level I and II streets in the City's Snow Plan, as well as known trouble spots, covering roughly 400 lane miles with about 27,000 gallons of brine.

The City has responded to two winter weather events earlier this month. For the event that occurred on Monday, January 8, crews applied about 27,000 gallons of pre-treatment brine and 91 tons of salt to Level I and II streets, hospital routes, KAT snow routes, and known trouble spots. For the brief winter weather experienced on Friday, January 12, crews put down roughly 50 tons of salt on bridges and trouble spots.
