Meet the Neighbors! Fire Station No. 7 in Lonsdale Throws 1st in Series of Open Houses
On a muggy evening in late July, dozens of people stopped by their Lonsdale neighborhood fire station to meet the City firefighters who keep watch over their community and protect their families 24/7.
The July 28, 2022, Open House at Fire Station No. 7 was the first in a series, with the next one scheduled next week.
“An Open House is a great way for people to meet their neighborhood firefighters," Fire Chief Stan Sharp said. "Children love seeing a fire engine up close, and our firefighters love getting to know their neighbors. "
Station No. 7, 1216 New York Ave., has a storied history. It was built in 1917, when Lonsdale was considered the outer reaches of the city, and its crews have responded to tens of thousands of emergency calls over the past century. It's Knoxville's second oldest fire station, behind Station No. 5 in Mechanicsville.
Here's a small gallery from the July 28 Open House:
Gathered on the front porch of Station No. 7 are Mayor Indya Kincannon, City Council member Janet Testerman, Capt. Ty Browning, Master Firefighter Rusty Pickel, Firefighter Nolan Ailor and Senior Firefighter Daniel Rice.
KFD's next open house will be Aug. 25 at Station No. 10, located at 2911 Sevier Ave.
