Got a great idea or know of a model program for increasing meaningful job opportunities for people with disabilities?

Register today for a “Community Conversation” to discuss strategies for supporting the employment of people with disabilities. The coffee-and-conversation gathering is scheduled for 6-8:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at Embassy Suites, 9621 Parkside Drive.

People with disabilities represent a great untapped resource, says Stephanie Cook, the City’s ADA Coordinator. More than 70 percent of people with disabilities aren’t employed. So the organizers of Tuesday’s event decided to have a creative “Community Conversation” about how to change that.

Mayor Madeline Rogero is among the speakers at this informal “Community Conversation,” during which participants will share and explore innovative ideas. Sponsors include the Knoxville Area Employment Consortium, Tennesseeworks and Vanderbilt Kennedy Center.

Organizers hope for a diverse turnout of participants representing business, government, educators, service providers, nonprofit agencies, faith communities and individuals with disabilities and their families.
