Open Streets Knoxville, Part 2: Twice the Fun - Be Sure to Download Easy-to-Use App!
Open Streets will encore on Sunday, May 15.

The debut Open Streets Knoxville event last October drew about 3,400 curious and enthusiastic participants.

The kickoff event was fun and festive. Building on its success, organizers expect the Open Streets encore - scheduled from 1-6 p.m. Sunday, May 15, along a mile-long stretch of Central Street - to attract at least 8,000 people.

Everyone is invited to walk, bike, scoot, dance, shop, exercise and socialize their way along Central Street between Willow Street in the Old City and Scott Avenue in Happy Holler. The street for five hours will be closed to all motorized traffic – allowing revelers a play day in the street and a chance to experience 80 or so activities.

Open Streets Knoxville is hosted by Bike Walk Knoxville with support from the City of Knoxville and the Knoxville Regional Transportation Planning Organization, along with many other backers. The unique event promotes physical activity, healthy living and sustainable transportation. It's also a chance to see the City in a new way and to get to know better the local merchants along the Central Street corridor.

Be sure and download a new easy-to-use mobile application that will provide schedules for the performances and maps for locating your favorite restaurant or food truck, water, parking and restrooms. The app also will work like Facebook, so you can upload pictures, post comments and receive notifications. Download the app by searching for "Open Streets Knoxville," or click on iPhone or Android links on the Open Streets Knoxville website - http://openstreetsknoxville.com/.

Thousands of families enjoyed the inaugural Oct. 25 Open Streets Knoxville event.
