Young people invited to blue...
Young people invited to blues class this Saturday
“Woke up this morning… da da da da da….”
Many blues songs start out this way. And some would argue it’s because the blues is a universal experience, regardless of age.
Local singer-songwriter Kelle Jolly will lead a workshop this Saturday, Feb. 25, 3 p.m. at the City of Knoxville’s Knoxville Arts and Fine Crafts Center (1127 North Broadway) to teach young people (middle and high school students) about the blues.

“They will learn about songwriters like Bessie Smith and Leola Manning of Knoxville,” Jolly says.
Using what they’ve learned and the 12-bar blues form, the class will collaboratively write a song about living in Knoxville, with Jolly accompanying on ukulele.
The blues crew’s moment in the spotlight come Saturday, March 11, at the Neighborhood Festival when they will perform their composition during the Awards & Networking Luncheon.
The fee is $10 to participate, but some registration fees have been sponsored upon requesting a waiver. To sign up or get more information, call the Arts and Fine Crafts Center at 865-523-1401.
Registration for the 2017 Neighborhood Conference is still open; admission is free, but registration will qualify you for free breakfast and lunch.
