92nd Annual Veterans Day Parade Rolls Through Downtown
First-graders at Temple Baptist Academy in Powell await the start of the 92nd annual Veterans Day Parade.

It was no surprise that about 140 students from Temple Baptist Academy in Powell arrived downtown early today, lined a section of the Gay Street curb, and patiently awaited the start of the 92nd annual Veterans Day Parade.

After all, it's something that the Temple Academy students do every year. The school puts a priority on honoring public service and those who serve.

"We're here every year," said Elementary School Principal Melody Yates. "We want to show respect to the veterans who have served our country."

Athletic Director Houston Sherrod agreed, adding, "We teach our kids that it's important that they respect our veterans."

They joined hundreds of parade participants and even more observers, who lined both sides of the length of Gay Street. Many waved flags and thanked cheerfully veterans for their service.

Among those celebrating Veterans Day were a large contingent of Fulton High School students. The school band and ROTC members marched in the parade, and Fulton journalism students shot video and interviewed Mayor Madeline Rogero, Navy Capt. Christopher "Chris" Buziak and others. Capt. Buziak was Thursday's featured speaker at the East Tennessee Military Affairs Council's 35th annual Veterans Appreciation and Recognition Luncheon.

Thank you, veterans, for your sacrifices and service!
