Open Streets Knoxville Returns to South Waterfront

Open Streets Knoxville map, spring 2018
In less than three weeks, Open Streets Knoxville returns to Sevier Avenue and the South Waterfront. Here's a map (left) showing the Sunday, May 20 route for the sixth installment of Open Streets in Knoxville.

This will be the second Open Streets celebration that showcases Suttree Landing Park and the South Waterfront’s commercial corridor. (The first two were held along Central Street. The idea is to move around and explore new venues, so follow-up events were held in Bearden and on Magnolia Avenue.)

The May 20 gathering will be a bit of a do-over. Last Oct. 29, a crowd gathered for the first Open Streets event in South Knoxville, but the weather was unseasonably cold. As in, snow flurries. So the merchants, vendors and attendees asked that the Open Streets spring event return to South Knoxville.

From 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, May 20, Knoxvillians are invited to walk, bike, jog or dance their way along Sevier Avenue to Suttree Landing Park at Foggy Bottom Road. The roads will be closed to motorized traffic, allowing revelers a day of playing, exercising, socializing and shopping in the street – all on foot or two wheels.

Open Streets Knoxville, hosted by Bike Walk Knoxville with support from the City of Knoxville, Knoxville Regional TPO, Visit Knoxville and Knox County, aims to promote physical activity and community interaction during these free community events.

Gold sponsors are AA Air, AAA and WUTK.
