#KnoxvilleJobDone: Parks and Rec Crews, Partners Distribute More Than 25,000 Meals During Pandemic
City Parks and Rec staff have partnered with CAC and Knox County Schools to deliver 25,000 meals to children at eight sites.

Today, City Parks and Recreation staff hit a big milestone: Partnering with the Knoxville-Knox County Community Action Committee and Knox County Schools, more than 25,000 meals have been distributed during the pandemic to children at eight sites.

"This is a great example of the commitment and versatility of the employees in the Parks and Recreation Department," Deputy Director Aaron Browning says. "When most amenities, like recreation centers, closed down as a public-safety precaution to stop the spread, Parks and Recreation staff looked for new ways to continue to help serve families. Helping to get meals to kids was a great place to start."

Parks and Rec will continue partnering with CAC to provide grab-and-go meals at 15 sites throughout the summer.

The pandemic is affecting traditional delivery of Parks and Recreation programs in other ways. The City's Arts and Fine Crafts Center began offering take-and-make projects in March (more details on the center's Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/kafcc/) and recently began offering online Zoom classes.

Parks and Recreation staff is excited to continue programming and to reopen park amenities in coming weeks as allowed by local Phase Two guidelines and protocols, to be firmed up by health officials later this week. Please follow the City's website (www.knoxvilletn.gov) and the City's Parks and Recreation Department social media (Facebook - www.facebook.com/KnoxvilleRecreation/) for updates as new information becomes available.

Meanwhile, this week is national Public Works Week. Thank a Parks and Rec employee for what he or she does!
