Congratulations to KPD's 21 newly promoted officers
The Knoxville Police Department on Thursday promoted 21 officers to higher ranks.
Congratulations to the Knoxville Police Department's newest captain, 8 lieutenants and 12 sergeants, who officially received their badges for their new ranks at today's Promotion Ceremony.
The promotions reflect decades of service and experience - a combined 289 years with KPD for these 21 officers!
The ceremony was held at Overcoming Believers Church, 210 Harriet Tubman St., and Pastor Daryl Arnold gave the invocation.
As part of the ceremony, a loved one - a spouse, parent or child - pinned the badge on the newly promoted officer, and Police Chief David Rausch presented him or her with a certificate recognizing the promotion. KPD Chaplain Pam Neal offered the benediction.
Today's honorees:
-- Capt. David E. Powell
-- Lts. Travis L. Brasfield, K. Brian Bush, Stanley F. Cash, Susan R. Coker, J. Brian Evans, Nevin L. Long, Christopher B. McCarter and Steve Still.
-- Sgts. Dennis R. Bible, Brian L. Bumpus, Amanda J. Bunch, Peter C. Franzen, Caryn R. Heitz, Samuel B. Henard, Andrew M. Keith, Kyle G. Loveday, Jeremy S. Maupin, Colin C. McLeod, Adam L. Minner and Shawn W. Shreve.
Also, Officer James A. Wilson was presented a Purple Heart Award for bravery and an injury sustained in the line of duty last May, when he was shot by a suspect. A bullet-resistant vest is credited with saving Officer Wilson's life.
Congratulations to these 21 officers as they serve the City and its citizens in new higher positions!
Daryl Arnold, pastor at Overcoming Believers Church, gives the invocation.
Family members pinned badges on the newly elected officers during today's ceremony.
