Somber 9/11 Memorial Service Held on Front Lawn of City County Building
A 9/11 Memorial Service was held today on the front lawn of the City County Building.

This morning, the City of Knoxville and Knox County held a joint 9/11 Memorial Service to honor those who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.

A moment of silence was held, and the names of three 9/11 victims with ties to East Tennessee were read: Timothy Aaron Haviland, William Anthony "Tony" Karnes, and John Robinson "Rob" Lenoir.

The ceremony also recognized 10 local first responders who went to New York City to aid with search and recovery. First Baptist Church rung its bells, a wreath was placed at the 9/11 memorial on the lawn in front of the City County Building, and "Taps" was bugled during the service.
