At around 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, officers observed that a black paint-like substance had been poured out on the roadway in two separate places over the Black Lives Matter mural located in front of Austin-East High School on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. The substance was still wet and being spread by traffic driving through it. Officers requested assistance from the Service Department to address the potential traffic issue, and they responded to spread absorbent on the impacted area. The KPD is investigating the incident and there is no suspect information at this time.
