Shooting in Fort Sanders

On Sunday, September 13, 2020 at around 2:20 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to numerous gunshots in the area of White Avenue between 19th and 20th Street. Officers were unable to locate a crime scene or a victim, nor did any witnesses come forward. As officers were canvassing the area, Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center reported that a male gunshot victim had arrived at the ER for treatment. The crime scene was eventually located on both the north and south sides of White Avenue just west of 19th Street. Officers spoke with the victim, who stated that he was involved in an altercation at the Shell station on Cumberland Avenue prior to the occurrence of the shooting. The victim was stabilized at Fort Sanders before being transferred to the UT Medical Center for further treatment. It is currently unknown who shot the victim and the incident is under investigation by the KPD Violent Crimes Unit.
