On Friday, October 9, 2020 at around 1:40 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the area of Hembree Street and Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue after a male victim reported that he had been shot. Upon arrival, officers observed a male suffering from at least one gunshot wound to the chest. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center via AMR with injuries that are not believed to be life threatening at this time.
At approximately the same time as the shooting, officers responded to a residential burglary in progress in the 400 block of Hembree Street, where it is believed that the shooting occurred. The residents stated that two unknown males had entered the home with guns and left the scene prior to the arrival of officers.
Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin their investigation, which remains in the preliminary stages.
