Five Suspects Charged in Montgomery Village Shooting
The five suspects who were captured following a pursuit that ended near the Dollar General at 2625 Western Avenue have been charged in the Montgomery Village shooting.
The suspects were identified as 26-year-old Deontae Green, 21-year-old Isaiah Harris, 20-year-old Kevin Wilson, 18-year-old David Niyonkuru and a 17-year-old male. Green and Niyonkuru were both found to have outstanding warrants out of Knox County, while the 17-year-old male had an outstanding juvenile petition for attempted murder.
The five suspects are accused of occupying a vehicle that was seen shooting into a residence in the 4300 block of Joe Lewis Road at around 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. A 61-year-old male was struck by a bullet while sitting at his kitchen table. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center for treatment for his injuries and is expected to survive.
The suspect vehicle, a white PT cruiser, left the scene after the shooting. Approximately 20 minutes after responding to the initial shots fired call, officers observed the suspect vehicle on Jourolman Avenue and attempted to initiate a stop, at which time the suspect vehicle fled from officers. After a brief pursuit, the occupants abandoned the vehicle near the Dollar General at 2625 Western Avenue and fled on foot. Shortly after fleeing, all five occupants were taken into custody by responding officers.
A search of the vehicle occupied by the five suspects resulted in the discovery of three handguns, including one that was reported as stolen in Ohio, a large amount of suspected heroin and a denomination of U.S. currency.
