Shooting on Sunset Avenue, Suspect in Custody

At around 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18, 2021, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to 2924 Sunset Avenue in reference to a shooting with victim. Upon arrival, an adult female was found in the front yard of the residence suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she underwent emergency surgery. Extensive life-sustaining efforts proved unsuccessful and the victim was pronounced deceased at around 6:45 p.m. The preliminary investigation determined that the shooting occurred during a domestic altercation and that the female suspect fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting.

A short time after the shooting, the suspect, who is the sister of the victim, turned herself into Violent Crimes Unit investigators. The suspect, identified as 32-year-old Dayeshia Hall, has been charged with voluntary manslaughter, employing a firearm during a dangerous felony and reckless endangerment.
