At around 8:35 p.m. on Monday, June 14, 2021, officers assigned to the Community Engagement Response Team were conducting a walking patrol through Walter P. Taylor Homes when they encountered a male subject outside of a residence in the 2200 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Officers also observed what appeared to be a pistol grip sticking outside of the subject’s waistband. Upon approach of the subject, while giving commands for the subject to not grab the firearm, he started to make movements towards his waistband to grab the gun. The subject, identified as 25-year-old Jamar Johnson, was quickly detained without incident. The firearm found in the possession of Johnson, who has a prior felony conviction for robbery, was loaded with a round in the chamber. The firearm was confiscated, while Johnson was taken into custody and charged with convicted felon in possession of a handgun.
