Fatal Shooting on Catalpa Avenue  
Update on Fatal Shooting on Catalpa Avenue (July 2, 2021, 10:50 a.m.)

The victim from the fatal shooting in the 4000 block of Catalpa Avenue has been identified as Donald Busby, 48 of Knoxville, Tennessee. No suspects have been arrested or charged at this time. Major Crimes Unit detectives are pursuing active leads that have been developed in the course of the investigation.

Initial Release

At around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 1, 2021, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to the 4000 block of Catalpa Avenue in reference to a shooting with a victim. Upon arrival, a vehicle was found crashed into a telephone pole with an adult male victim inside of the vehicle suffering from at least one apparent gunshot wound. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center via AMR and was pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival.  

Major Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains in the preliminary stages. There are no suspects in custody at this time.
