KPD Partnering with THSO for "Booze It and Lose It" Enforcement Campaign
The Knoxville Police Department is partnering with the Tennessee Highway Safety Office (THSO) for its “Booze It and Lose It” campaign from August 20 to September 6, surrounding the Labor Day holiday. This initiative coincides with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” mobilization to increase impaired-driving enforcement nationwide.

During the campaign, KPD officers will increase its high-visibility enforcement efforts with the goal of drastically reducing drunk driving as well as serious crashes and roadway fatalities caused by drunk driving and other forms of reckless driving.

“Drunk driving makes the road significantly more dangerous,” Chief of Police Eve Thomas said. “In this day and age, there is simply no excuse for getting behind the wheel after drinking. There are so many readily-available options and the consequences of drinking and driving are too great. Everyone plays a role in keeping the roads safe, so if you choose to drink, please arrange a sober ride.”

The consequences of a single DUI conviction for a first-time offender in the state of Tennessee may include costly fines, court costs, legal fees, jail time, mandatory drug and alcohol treatment, and/or the installation of an ignition interlock device in the offender’s vehicle.

The THSO provides grant funding to support the Knoxville Police Department’s increased enforcement efforts during the Booze It and Lose It campaign. For more information about the THSO, please visit www.tntrafficsafety.org.
