Update on Cansler Avenue Incident (October 26, 2021, 6 p.m.)
The victim from the incident that occurred on Monday night on Cansler Avenue has been identified as Junior Santiago, 18 of Knoxville, Tennessee. Santiago, who had been shot at least one time, was found deceased inside of an overturned vehicle on Cansler Avenue near Wallace Street. Extensive investigation that carried into the early hours of Tuesday morning identified the primary suspect. Earlier today, the suspect was located by Violent Crimes Unit investigators. Following continued investigation, the suspect, a 15-year-old male, has been booked into the Juvenile Detention Center on a juvenile petition for possession of a weapon with intent to go armed with additional charges pending. The identity of the suspect is not being released at this time due to his juvenile status.

At around 9:15 p.m. tonight, Knoxville Police Department officers received a call regarding a crash with injuries on Cansler Avenue near Wallace Street. Shortly after the initial call, officers were advised that a shooting had occurred in the area prior to the crash. Upon officer arrival, an adult male victim was found inside of an overturned vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Violent Crimes Unit investigators and Crime Lab personnel responded to the scene to begin the investigation, which remains ongoing at this time. Evidence at the scene suggests that a shooting occurred prior to the crash. The victim will be transported to the Regional Forensic Center for autopsy and to determine cause of death.
