Throughout the Christmas holiday, Knoxville Police Department officers conducted enhanced holiday traffic enforcement in an effort to prevent serious crashes. That enforcement period ran from 4 p.m. on December 24 all the way through Sunday, December 26.
We are happy to report that there were no fatal crashes and only four crashes that resulted in injury within the City of Knoxville over that timeframe. Officers also investigated 22 crashes that only resulted in property damage with no injuries reported. In total, KPD officers issued 42 citations for traffic violations. Additionally, officers issued 38 warning citations and assisted 10 motorists. Two were arrested for driving under the influence.
As New Year’s Eve approaches, we urge motorists to continue to practice safe driving habits. Always buckle up, eliminate distractions, slow down, and stay alert and aware of your surroundings. If you’re driving, all of your attention should be devoted to that task. Finally, if you choose to drink, never get behind the wheel. It is everybody’s responsibility to make sure that the roads stay safe.
