At around 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening, CERT officers attempted to stop a black Dodge Charger that was leaving a parking lot in the Walter P. area for a traffic violation. Soon after officers initiated the stop, the front seat passenger, who was identified as William North, ran from the car.

Officers chased after North and saw him run into an apartment in the 300 block of McConnell Street. Numerous individuals came out of the apartment and officers were given consent to search the apartment. Shortly after, North was found hiding under a bed in an upstairs room and subsequently taken into custody without further issue.

An AM-15 firearm was found on the bed that North was under. Officers also located a bag that North discarded in the kitchen. Inside the bag, officers found another loaded handgun, narcotics believed to be crack cocaine, heroin and powder cocaine along with other drugs, and two digital scales.

North had 10 outstanding warrants out of Knox County, including four for aggravated assault, one for especially aggravated kidnapping, one for aggravated stalking and another for aggravated kidnapping.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, multiple additional charges were added for drug and weapon possession as well as evading arrest for the incident on Wednesday.
