Deadly Shooting at El Pulpo Loco
Victims Identified from Shooting at El Pulpo Loco (October 17, 2022, 12:50 p.m.)
The victims from the shooting early Sunday morning at El Pulpo Loco on Alcoa Highway have been identified as Pablo Roberto Nunez Acosta, 32 of Louisville, Tennessee, Joel Canales, 28 of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Anderson Sanchez, 21 of Knoxville, Tennessee. Acosta was pronounced dead at the scene, while Sanchez was transported to the UT Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized in critical condition. Canales arrived at an area hospital by personal vehicle and was released after being treated for a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.
It is believed that the shooting occurred following an altercation that started inside of the club and continued in the parking lot.
No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting and the investigation into the shooting remains ongoing at this time. Anyone with information that could assist with the investigation is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165 or online at

At around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 16, 2022, Knoxville Police Department officers responded to El Pulpo Loco located at 2909 Alcoa Highway due to reports of a shooting with multiple victims.
Officers arrived on scene and located two male gunshot victims in the parking lot. One was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second was transported to the UT Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. While officers were processing the scene, a third male showed up at an area hospital with a gunshot wound that is not believed to be life-threatening.
Possible witnesses were located on scene and transported to the Safety Building for questioning.
