Man Arrested After KPD Officers Interrupt Suspected Bank Burglary on Friday
Carl Whittington, 33, was charged with burglary after Knoxville Police Department officers interrupted a suspected break-in at a bank on Kingston Pike on Friday afternoon.
On Friday, November 11, 2022 at just after 1 p.m., KPD officers heard an alarm coming from the Knoxville TVA Employees Credit Union at 4611 Kingston Pike. As officers pulled into the parking lot, a man later identified as Carl Whittington appeared from behind the air conditioning units, started to walk away from officers and was detained for further investigation.
Further investigation revealed that the attic vent on the side of the building was completely missing. Officers cleared the inside of the bank, and Whittington’s cell phone and wallet were found in the attic area, which has access points to the inside of the bank. Officers also observed noticeable damage to the attic vent as well as wires and electrical equipment inside of the attic.
Whittington was taken into custody and charged with burglary, a class D felony.
