Two people have been charged in connection to the shooting that occurred at a concert that was hosted by My Canna Buds on Clinton Highway on January 2, 2023.
Jackie Netterville, 22 of Mississippi, and Gino Mickens, 20 of Georgia, have each been charged with one count of reckless endangerment. Mickens was detained following the shooting and taken into custody after it was determined that he had multiple outstanding felony warrants out of Florida. Netterville is not in custody and his whereabouts are currently unknown at this time. Additional charges are possible pending further investigation.
Based on continued investigation, it is believed that the altercation that preceded the shooting involved the performer, Memphis-based rapper Finesse2tymes, the owner of My Canna Buds and their respective hired security personnel. In the hours immediately following the shooting, investigators conducted over 25 interviews of witnesses and possible suspects.
The KPD was aware of the concert and the potential for violence based on open-source and human intelligence. Numerous officers were deployed in the area both prior to and during the concert, allowing officers to arrive on the scene almost simultaneously after shots were fired.
At least seven firearms were recovered from the scene by responding officers.
All three victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Two of the victims have been released from the hospital, while one remains hospitalized.
“I am incredibly thankful for our officers who were deployed in the area and responded immediately after shots were fired,” Chief Paul Noel said. “Their preparedness and willingness to run into a dangerous and chaotic situation almost certainly prevented a much greater tragedy from happening. I am also very grateful for our investigators, who have worked virtually non-stop since this shooting occurred to identify the responsible parties and hold them accountable for their actions. We are not going to tolerate violence that impacts our community, especially from those who come from outside of our community to perpetrate it.”
