Two unnamed juvenile males have been charged with attempted second-degree murder following a shooting that happened on Tuesday morning on E. Magnolia Avenue. Both males were captured following a vehicle and foot pursuit after Knoxville Police Department officers quickly responded to the area.
At around 9:22 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, KPD officers responded to an apartment complex at 2706 E. Magnolia Avenue. The victim reported that two unknown males were in the process of breaking into a car in the parking lot when he attempted to intervene. At that point, the suspects fired at the victim and sped away from the scene in what was described as a white Kia. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.
A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcast to patrol officers, who located the vehicle approximately 10 minutes later after receiving a hit on a Flock LPR camera. Officers attempted to stop the car near the ramp to I-40 East from Cherry Street, but the car did not stop and fled.
Officers pursued the car until it crashed on I-40 near Asheville Highway, at which time the two suspects ran from the car. Officers converged in the area and continued to pursue the suspects on foot with the assistance of a K-9 track. At around 9:45 a.m., both suspects were located and taken into custody without further issue.
The suspects were identified as 15-year-old males from New York.
Multiple firearms were recovered at the scene, including multiple stolen firearms. The white Kia was also reported as stolen.
Violent Crimes investigators obtained juvenile petitions charging both suspects with attempted second-degree murder. Additional charges are pending and the investigation is ongoing.
