UPDATE (April 3, 2023, 9:45 a.m.): The pedestrian who was hit and killed on Dandridge Avenue last Thursday morning has been identified as Sankinna Merchant, 43 of Knoxville. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

Knoxville Police Department crash reconstruction personnel are investigating a fatal pedestrian-involved crash that happened this morning on Dandridge Avenue.
At around 4:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023, KPD officers responded to Dandridge Avenue just east of Hazen Street on the report of an unresponsive individual who had apparently been hit by a car. Responding Knoxville Fire Department and AMR personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is believed that the victim, an adult woman, was walking on the road when the crash occurred. The driver of the involved vehicle is cooperating with the investigation, which remains ongoing at this time.
The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
