36-year-old Shannon Glasper, of Knoxville, has been charged with vehicular homicide and additional charges as a result of a fatal crash that happened early Monday morning on I-40 East near Papermill Drive.
At around 1:50 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2023, Knoxville Police Department Officers responded to a crash on I-40 East near the Papermill Drive exit.
The investigation revealed that a Honda sedan and Dodge truck pulling a fifth-wheel camper were traveling eastbound on I-40 when the Honda lost control and struck the Dodge. The Dodge then left the roadway, flipped over the wall and came to rest on its top on the ramp to Papermill Drive.
The female passenger of the Dodge was pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver and a second passenger were transported to the UT Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Honda initially fled the crash scene but stopped a short time later due to disabling damage that the vehicle sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Honda, identified as Glasper, exhibited signs of intoxication and was also driving on a suspended license.
Glasper is in custody on charges that include vehicular homicide, vehicular assault and driving while license is suspended.
The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. The identity of the deceased is being withheld at this time.
