The Knoxville Police Department Investigations Bureau is investigating an officer-involved shooting that happened early Saturday morning.
At around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, a KPD officer responded to a home in the 6800 block of Pemmbrooke Shire Lane. The officer responded to that address after 9-1-1 dispatch received a request for emergency response via text message.
Shortly after arriving at the home, the officer was confronted by a man armed with a firearm. The officer fired one time while seeking cover. Additional officers responded to the scene for assistance and the man was taken into custody without further incident.
There were no injuries reported.
In consultation with the District Attorney’s Office, since nobody was struck by the gunfire, the KPD’s Investigations Bureau will lead the investigation. The KPD Office of Professional Standards has also initiated an administrative investigation to ensure that all departmental policies and procedures were followed.
The involved subject was transported to an area hospital for evaluation. The KPD remains in consultation with the DA’s office regarding charges.
The involved officer has been placed on routine administrative leave.
