KPD Investigating Carjacking of U.S. Postal Service Carrier 
UPDATE (Monday, December 11, 2023): Tireless investigation led by KPD Violent Crime detectives resulted in the identification of Kemian Strawder, 18 of Knoxville, as a suspect in connection to the December 6th armed carjacking of a U.S. Postal Service driver on Dandridge Avenue. Juvenile petitions are on file charging Strawder, who was a juvenile at the time of the crime, with carjacking, aggravated assault and weapon charges.

Efforts remain ongoing to locate Strawder and identify the second suspect.

Anyone with information regarding Strawder’s whereabouts is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

Strawder, who is 5’9 and approximately 195 pounds, should be considered armed and dangerous.

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating after a postal service worker was carjacked on Wednesday morning.  

At just after 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, KPD officers responded to a call regarding a carjacking that allegedly occurred in the 2200 block of Dandridge Avenue. Officers arrived on scene, where a USPS driver reported that he was held at gunpoint by two unidentified men. One suspect drove away in the USPS truck, while the other drove away in a white Toyota.   

Approximately an hour later, officers canvassing the area found the stolen USPS truck and one of the suspects in a vacant lot off Cityview Avenue. The armed suspect ran from officers, who eventually lost sight of the him in the Chester Avenue area.  

Officers also found the white Toyota suspect vehicle abandoned on Cityview Avenue. The second suspect had left the scene, potentially fleeing into the area of Walter P.   

At this time, efforts remain ongoing to identify and locate the suspects, who were described as Black males wearing masks.  

The mail carrier was not injured during the incident.
