Suspect Apprehended Following Pilot Robbery  
On Saturday, July 18 at just after 3 a.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a robbery at the Pilot located at 2918 Tazewell Pike. Upon arrival, officers were advised that a male subject entered the store and asked for a pack of cigarettes, while at the same time pulling out a machete and demanding money. The suspect then fled the store on foot following the robbery. 

Officers were able to quickly locate an individual matching the description of the suspect on Old Broadway at I-640. After detaining the individual and upon further investigation, the subject, identified as 31-year-old Virgus Massengill, confessed to the robbery. The suspect was found in possession of the cigarettes and the money taken during the robbery, and also showed officers where he discarded the machete after the robbery. Massengill was charged with aggravated robbery and has been booked into the Knox County Detention Center.
