Recovery Efforts Underway for Possible Fort Dickerson Quarry Drowning  
UPDATE (August 25, 2020, 10:30 a.m.): Body Recovered from Fort Dickerson Quarry 

At around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, Knox County Rescue and Blount Special Operations Response Team personnel recovered the body of a male victim from the Fort Dickerson Quarry. The body will be transported to the Regional Forensic Center for autopsy. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. Investigators are actively working to make notification to the family of the deceased.

At around 7:50 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, Knoxville Police Department officers were advised of a possible drowning that occurred at the Fort Dickerson Quarry. Upon arrival, officers were informed that the male victim was at the quarry swimming with friends. The victim allegedly jumped into the water on the west side of the quarry and never resurfaced according to a witness. 

Knox County Rescue personnel responded to the scene and made a recovery attempt with SONAR equipment, but that effort was unsuccessful as of 11 p.m. on Sunday night. Recovery efforts resumed this morning at around 9 a.m. and remain ongoing at this time.
