KPD Officers Apprehend Attempted Robbery Suspect in Downtown Knoxville Saturday Night  
On Saturday, October 3, 2020 at approximately 11:30 p.m., Knoxville Police Department officers responded to an attempted robbery in the 400 block of Gay Street. The victim, who works for Sky Box Sports Bar & Grill, stated that he was taking the trash out the back door into Strong Alley when he was approached by the suspect, identified as Chad Whaley (DOB 11/1/87). The victim stated that the suspect walked up to him with both hands in his front hoodie pocket and told the victim he was going to rob him. The victim ran back inside the business and called 9-1-1. Officers responded to the scene quickly and located the suspect in the alley behind Sky Box. The victim immediately identified the suspect as the one responsible for the attempted robbery. A search of the suspect also revealed various drug paraphernalia. Whaley was charged with attempted robbery and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
