Update on Shooting on Hilton Road
The victim from the fatal shooting that occurred on Friday night at 1212 Hilton Road has been identified as Danny Smith, 65 of Bean Station, Tennessee.
The ongoing KPD Major Crimes Unit investigation shows that the victim and the suspect, who were both employed by YRC Freight, were involved in a dispute that turned violent prior to the shooting. Upon arrival at the scene, patrol officers detained the suspect, who had remained on scene.
No charges have been filed at this time. Upon the completion of the investigation, the case will be turned over to the Knox County District Attorney’s Office for review and further action.

Shooting at Hilton Road
At around 8:20 p.m. on Friday, August 20, 2021, KPD Major Crimes Unit investigators responded to 1212 Hilton Road in reference to a shooting with a victim. Upon arrival, a male victim was found suffering from at least one gunshot and was transported to the UT Medical Center via AMR in critical condition. Just after midnight, the victim was pronounced deceased at UTMC.
Based on the preliminary investigation, the victim and suspect were known to one another. All involved parties are accounted for, and no charges have been filed at this time.
