Pedestrian Seriously Injured in Alcoa Highway Crash
At around 5:22 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 9-1-1 dispatch received a report of a single-vehicle crash on Alcoa Highway near the exit ramp to Kingston Pike. The vehicle from that crash was traveling southbound on Alcoa Highway when it struck the inside concrete barrier and came to rest in the left lane. Two vehicles that were not involved in the crash stopped to help the driver of the initial collision when a vehicle traveling southbound on Alcoa Highway drove between the two parked vehicles and struck a woman who had stopped to help as well as the crashed car. The female pedestrian was seriously injured as a result of the crash and transported to the UT Medical Center for immediate medical treatment. No other injuries were reported in either collision. Due to the severity of the injuries suffered by the pedestrian, KPD crash reconstruction investigators were requested to respond to the scene to investigate. Once that investigation is complete, the file will be turned over to the Knox County District Attorney’s Office to make a determination regarding charges and prosecution. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
