Week 3: Work Continues at East Wing, Professional Office Building

This week, contractor crews are beginning interior demolition of the eighth floor of the Professional Office Building, while debris continues to be sorted and cleared as part of the East Wing demolition.

The work follows last week’s completion of abatement in the Professional Office Building. Late last week, air clearance testing was completed, and the air quality (as anticipated) exceeded regulatory standards. Demolition at the East Wing as of late last week was 95 percent complete.

The $46.5 million City investment is transforming the vacant former St. Mary’s Hospital campus in North Knoxville into a new Public Safety Complex, with the north end of the site being razed in anticipation of marketing it for private redevelopment. Lincoln Memorial University is also a partner, renovating the Magdalen Clarke Tower for reuse for LMU’s nursing, business and criminal justice schools.
