Week 21: Demolition Moves to Central Wing Patient Tower
As contractor crews near the end of their 21st week at the former St. Mary's Hospital site, demolition and abatement work continues at the Women's Pavilion, Central Annex, Marian Wing, Central Wing and North Wing.
New this week: Renascent's team is starting mass demolition of the patient tower in the Central Wing.

Elsewhere on the vacant hospital campus, Environmental Abatement crews are continuing with above-ceiling work in the Central Wing Annex, finishing up on the fifth and sixth floors. (Pictured below is the fifth floor.)
The City of Knoxville is investing $40 million to overhaul the vacated hospital and transform it into a combined Public Safety Complex that will house Police, Fire, City Court and Pension Systems operations.
Another $6.5 million is being spent to clear parts of the northern end of the campus to create opportunities for future private redevelopment. The iconic 1929 original building is being carefully preserved and would anchor that redevelopment.
Lincoln Memorial University is remodeling the former Magdalen Clarke Tower into classrooms.
